He did that which was right - He began his reign well, but soon became an idolater, 2-Chronicles 25:14, 2-Chronicles 25:15.

And he did [that which was] (a) right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
(a) Meaning, in respect to his predecessors, though he had his imperfections.

But not, &c. - He was not an enemy to religion, but a cool and indifferent friend. He was not a man of serious piety; for his heart was not whole with God.
